History of Temples in Japan

Temples have a sacred place in the hearts of the Japanese. Japan's ancient capital Kyoto alone has several thousand temples, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Some temples built over a thousand years ago still stand beautifully with very little reconstruction. For many tourists, temples are a rare sight, unique to Japan. The architectural structures and history make each temple unique, making it worthwhile to take a look at Japan's most sacred temples.
